The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has called for the Dallas-Fort Worth population to brace themselves for an 'Ozone Action Day' today. A heat advisory concurrently in effect exacerbates conditions, urging residents to take every measure to ensure their health and safety against the backdrop of sky-high temperatures.
With forecasts predicting heat index values between 105 and 108 degrees, the National Weather Service Fort Worth TX stresses the elevated risk for heat-related illnesses. The advisory, which is to remain in effect until 9 PM CDT, comes as Dallas sees highs soaring up to 104 degrees. The sweltering climate poses a particular threat to those outdoors, whether for work or leisure.
In response to atmospheric conditions conducive to producing high levels of ozone air pollution, TCEQ recommends that citizens share a ride, walk, ride a bicycle, take their lunch to work, avoid drive-through lanes, conserve energy, and keep their vehicles properly tuned to help reduce ozone pollution. These suggestions come amid a summer where the persistent heat has become a common adversary, eagerly watched by anyone venturing into the Texan outdoors.
The Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service does provide a faint sliver of hope, predicting a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 am tonight which may bring some momentary relief. However, the advisory also includes a chance for thunderstorms "for portions of North and Central Texas through the weekend, potentially bringing lightning and gusty winds.
