Residents of Dallas, brace yourselves for a combination of a heat onslaught and an air quality advisory this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, the city is forecasted to experience a cloudy start today with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 a.m. However, conditions are expected to clear gradually, paving the way for a sweltering high near 100 degrees.
In addition to the sizzling temperatures, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for today. The alert advises that atmospheric conditions are likely to quickly become favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The TCEQ suggests several actions to help prevent ozone pollution including sharing a ride, walking, or riding a bicycle. As per the National Weather Service, the public is encouraged to take their lunch to work, avoid drive-through lanes, conserve energy, and keep their vehicle properly tuned.
The weather throughout the coming week doesn't provide much respite. Sunny skies and high temperatures are forecasted across the region, with several days set to surpass the 100-degree mark. Heat advisories emphasize the risk associated with high heat index values, which are expected to climb above 100 during the hottest parts of the day.
In light of these conditions, officials recommend staying hydrated and finding shade or air conditioning whenever possible. The National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Outlook expects no spotter activation at this time but stresses that hot weather is expected all of next week with many locations reaching the triple digits. Residents are advised to prepare to significantly adjust their daily routines to stay cool and reduce the health hazards associated with intense heat and poor air quality.
