
Early yesterday morning, a group of five individuals from Detroit, including four teenagers, were apprehended by Warren police after a failed attempt to steal new Dodge Durangos, as reported by WWJ Newsradio. The incident occurred at Ground Effects Automotive and involved an attempt to breach the security gate with two of the vehicles.
Upon arrival around 6:30 a.m., officers encountered two Durangos crashing into the gate, but both SUVs were left immobile due to the damage, according to the ClickOnDetroit report. Individuals then vacated the vehicles and fled on foot, though authorities managed to apprehend five of the six suspects after a brief pursuit, the suspect's ages ranged from 16 to 24 years old.
Investigators believe that the suspects targeted six new Durangos, including five SRT models, with a combined value of roughly $500,000, according to CBS News Detroit. All vehicles were reportedly recovered on-site. The ongoing investigation looks to establish if there are connections between this attempted theft and other recent vehicle thefts in the area.
The authorities continue to follow up on several leads and the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office will determine criminal charges once all facts have been reviewed.
