The City of Duluth is proactively reaching out to the community seeking input on the proposed Athletics Venues Reinvestment Initiative (AVRI), a strategic action plan designed to guide significant investments in local athletic facilities. This initiative comes with a robust budget exceeding $30 million, targeted at rejuvenating park-based athletic venues that are essential to bolstering sports tourism in the region. Announced by the City of Duluth, AVRI aims to modernize current facilities while exploring new opportunities for reinvestment and co-investment that align with the community's values and priorities.
In an attempt to ensure the resulting action plan embodies the needs and preferences of those it will most affect, Duluth is hosting three open house events across the city. These gatherings serve as a platform for residents to not only gather information but also to actively participate in shaping the project’s development. Interested individuals have the liberty to move freely in and out of the open houses, engaging with the process for as much or as little time as they wish, as per the City of Duluth. It's stated that each session will offer identical information to ensure no one misses out on a chance to provide their input, regardless of which event they attend.
The series of public engagements will kick off at the Portman Community Center, located at 4601 McCulloch Street, on Tuesday, August 27, where the doors will open to the public from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The following day, on Wednesday, August 28, two more opportunities are scheduled. The first session will unfold at the Duluth Public Library, snug within the Green Room at 520 W. Superior Street, from 11:15 am to 1:15 pm. Rounding off these events, the Morgan Park Community Center at 1242 88th Avenue W. will welcome locals from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, as detailed by the City of Duluth.
