The Dunwoody Library and nearby Dunwoody Cultural Arts Center are set to receive a facelift in the form of driveway and parking lot improvements, designed to enhance traffic safety and efficiency. According to an announcement made by the city, construction kicked off this week and is expected to stretch across approximately two months.
The first phase of the project will see construction crews tackling the North Loop right in front the Spruill Center for the Arts and Stage Door Theatre. Traffic will still snake through, albeit with the familiar dance between cones and barrels guiding commuters. Then, in stage two, the connecting lane between the Library and the Spruill Center is slated for temporary closure as additional curb work gets underway.
Changes will become more pronounced in the third stage when the South entrance to the Library gets permanently shut down. In its place, two-way traffic will be established on the North loop and the once closed connector lane will be restored as a two-way passage. The city's decision to push the library's access point further from an intersection is intended to improve the safety and the flow of library-goers and visitors alike.
Not to be outdone, the Library parking lot itself is up next with a comprehensive reconstruction plan. This will be completed in two phases, ensuring that at least half of the parking spaces remain available throughout. Subsequently, the northern parking lots will receive an upgrade in the form of fresh paving. Despite the renovations, opening hours and programming at the Spruill Center, Stage Door Theatre, and the Library will soldier on without interruption. Patrons, however, are advised to exercise patience, drive with care, and afford the construction crews the necessary space to operate.
