A quiet East Dallas neighborhood was rocked by gunfire on Sunday evening, resulting in critical injuries to a 2-year-old girl. The incident occurred on the 8500 block of Sweetwater Drive around 8 p.m., during what started as a DoorDash delivery run for a local family. According to FOX 4 News, the family swerved their car to avoid hitting a motorcycle driven by 50-year-old local resident Jason Cain, which escalated into a dangerous confrontation.
Following the near-collision and a heated verbal exchange, witnesses reported seeing the motorcyclist, subsequently identified as Cain, pulling out a gun and firing into the family's vehicle. The girl was shot during this attack and, as WFAA notes, the round entered her abdomen, deflected off a rib, and lodged in her diaphragm. Medical staff concluded that attempting to remove the bullet could cause further harm, given its location.
Jessica Huseman, a neighbor and one of the first on the scene, described the chaos. "I got over to the car, and it whipped around and then stopped next to me," Huseman recalled. "And the mom, I assume, jumped out of the passenger side and said, ‘They shot my baby! They shot my baby!'" she said, as per FOX 4 News. The toddler was quickly taken to the hospital and is reported to be stable, though her precise condition remains unknown.
Dallas Police arrested Cain at his home following the incident. Upon resisting initially, he complied with the arrest. His home yielded multiple firearms, including automatic weapons, and the retrieval of many satanic, and nazi symbols, described in the details of the police search as reported by FOX 4 News. Cain is now facing one count of injury to a child and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
