Following a series of violent incidents that gripped the East Valley community, 19-year-old Noah Lee Pennington has been sentenced to three years in prison. As reported by Arizona’s Family, Pennington accepted a plea agreement surrounding three separate incidents which included aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated robbery, and drug possession.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office detailed the charges, stating Pennington was found guilty of two counts of Aggravated Assault, Class Three felonies for his actions in December 2022 involving a weapon to intimidate victims in Gilbert and during a May 2023 incident where a young teen was beaten and robbed. FOX 10 also mentioned Pennington’s possession of a bag containing fentanyl pills in Mesa.
According to Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, “Our message to the community is simple: these young adults are having to pay the price for their deliberate actions and know they cannot get away with it.” Her remarks come alongside public concerns over teen violence in the area, which has led to marches and city council meetings designed to address the issue comprehensively.
Adding to the family’s legal woes, Noah's older brother, Jacob Lee Pennington, was embroiled in his own legal issues. Arrested for underage drinking, he also faced sentencing for his role in a 2022 assault and admitted ties to what is being called a hybrid street gang, dubbed the Gilbert Goons. These developments come after a significant event last October when a teen, Preston Lord, was fatally beaten at a Queen Creek home, an incident which exploded the topic of teen violence onto the wider public stage and resulted in kidnapping and murder charges for several individuals. All suspects have pleaded not guilty as they await further legal proceedings.
