Escondido Police Department's recent DUI enforcement operation led to the arrest of two individuals on suspicion of DUI yesterday, and an additional 51 motorists received citations for various violations. These citations are not just trivial slips of paper. They reflect the driving behavior that often results in collisions and, at times, tragedy.
In a statement by the Escondido Police Department, Police Chief Ed Varso emphasized the department's commitment to safety, saying, "We are committed to taking impaired drivers off the road". He went on to issue a sober reminder of the steep costs associated with DUI charges, including the average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and the suspension of one's driving license for those charged with a first-time DUI.
The Escondido PD's effort to curb driving under the influence doesn't end here. The department has announced that it will be conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday, August 23, and another enforcement operation on September 5. The goal, as ever, is to ensure that the roads are safe for all who travel on them, regardless of the time or their destination.
The funding for these initiatives is made possible through grants, specifically one from the California Office of Traffic Safety, which operates through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
