As reported by local news outlets, a former Franklin County deputy is set to appear in court facing multiple charges. Charles Davis, the ex-deputy in question, has been indicted on a staggering 58 counts this month, including 32 counts of rape and 26 counts of gross sexual imposition, per the indictment details shared by ABC6.
Davis had been on administrative leave for nearly a year after an investigation by BCI commenced in September 2023. Following these events, he was terminated from the department earlier this month. While the specifics of Davis' case are compiled in an 18-page indictment, it surfaces as a grave embarrassment for law enforcement, as expressed by former Franklin County Sheriff Zach Scott in a statement obtained by ABC6. It isn't very comfortable for the department to have a deputy who got themselves in this situation. This case isn't Davis' first brush with notoriety, back in 2008 he was demoted and suspended for 60 days due to allegations of hazing new deputies inside the Franklin County Corrections Center.
Davis was seen in Ross County Municipal Court as his pretrial hearing unfolded. One of the victims sought a protection order and questioned the bond amount, according to NBC4i. Court documents revealed that half of the rape counts took place between March 1, 2020, and Aug. 7, 2021, involving victims under the age of 13.
Since his arrest on July 31, the same day as his indictment, Davis has been released with conditions that prohibit contact with minors, barring his children, and he has been fitted with GPS monitoring. The judge acknowledged Davis's compliance with these orders and stated that bond would be reconsidered should he fail to comply, his jury trial is projected to commence on March 4.
