The Fabens Independent School District has concluded its investigation into an event captured on a school bus that later surfaced on social media. A video showing a student reportedly being struck with what seemed to be small sticks or pencils prompted the investigation. The footage, shown by a local group dubbed Make Fabens Better which is unaffiliated with the district, left it unclear whether those involved were students or adults, as per KTSM.
Further details emerged as the district stated that they informed the parents of the implicated student directly. Safeguarding and protocols that the transportation department follows were reportedly adhered to throughout the incident, Fabens ISD officials said, as reported by KFOX-TV.
During the review process, the school district engaged with various departments, including transportation and security, and conducted interviews with all parties involved. The investigation's outcomes led the district to vouch for the effectiveness of the existing safety procedures. Despite this, the Fabens ISD has expressed its commitment to ongoing improvement of its practices to ensure the safety and security of students, as per KVIA.
The conclusion of the investigation seems to have satisfied the student's legal guardian, who has requested privacy and declined media contact to maintain confidentiality under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). "The student's legal guardian is satisfied with the conclusion of the district's investigation, and requests that the family's privacy regarding this matter be respected to maintain confidentiality under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)," Fabens ISD highlighted, emphasizing respect for the family's wishes during this period of scrutinous attention, as detailed by KVIA.
