A shocking road rage incident in Fairfield last month has resulted in the arrest of a 64-year-old man on multiple charges. According to a post on the Fairfield Police Department's Facebook page, the confrontation spiraled out of control after an altercation on westbound Highway 12.

Initially starting near Jackson Street, the dispute quickly escalated when the accused, Dirk Wiersma, followed the victim home. Wiersma then proceeded to not only throw a beer bottle at the victim but also attempt to run him over brutally. In an act of self-preservation, the victim had the wherewithal to successfully record the aggressive encounter with his phone—a decision that later proved crucial evidence.

"The man left before police arrived, but both he and his vehicle were quickly located on State Street", the Fairfield Police Department noted. An investigation ensued shortly after Officer Taylor approached Wiersma and detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him. A DUI investigation immediately followed.

The result of the investigation led to Wiersma's arrest. He now faces charges that include assault, making criminal threats, and driving under the influence. After being taken into custody, Wiersma was booked at the County Jail.
