Early Tuesday morning, travelers on Route 28 near Tarentum were confronted with a tragic scene as a deadly crash claimed the life of one individual. The accident, which involved multiple vehicles, occurred in the northbound lanes near the Creighton exit. According to a WPXI report, first responders from the Allegheny County 911 service, including police, fire, and EMS crews, were summoned to the place of the collision.
Following the incident, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) had to shut down the road between Exit 12A (Pittsburgh Mills Boulevard) and Exit 13 (Russellton/Creighton). This brought a significant halt to morning traffic as authorities investigated and cleared the wreckage. In a detail reported by CBS Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania State Police have not yet provided an official statement on the cause of the accident or whether there were any other injuries.
Lanes remained closed until just after 11:30 a.m., causing a considerable delay for the commuters. However, not long after midday, PennDOT announced that Route 28's northbound lanes had been cleared and reopened, allowing for a resumption of the usual traffic flow.
