A tragic incident unfolded in Phoenix after a vehicular collision led to the death of a pedestrian on Thursday, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. Witnesses reported and officials later confirmed that two cars collided near the intersection of 35th and Peoria avenues, causing one of the vehicles to careen onto the sidewalk where it struck two pedestrians.
Despite the emergency response team's rapid arrival, having occurred around noon, one of the pedestrians, Austin Coon who was 27, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other pedestrian, a female, was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were reported as non-life-threatening, as the vehicles involved laid strewn with the unfolding chaos on the sidewalk.
Both vehicles' occupants escaped physical harm, a stroke of luck in contrast to the pedestrians' fate. 12News shared video footage that shows an abrupt swerve of a vehicle jumping the curb before hitting the individuals who were simply standing at the corner of the intersection, highlighting the unexpected nature of the tragedy.
As the investigation into the deadly crash progresses, Phoenix Police are piecing together the sequence of events that led up to the incident. Authorities are examining the paved graveyard for clues, in which a vehicle's trajectory turned lethal for an unfortunate passerby. Detectives assigned to the case have yet to release any conclusions or findings about the contributing factors behind the crash.
