A fatal shooting occurred on 119th St S and Pacific Ave last evening, as confirmed by Pierce County Sheriff's Department. The dispatch received reports of several shots fired shortly before 6:39 pm on Wednesday, with one man subsequently found dead at the scene. The crime scene situated within a largely communal area has since been cordoned off to preserve vital evidence needed for the investigation.
According to the official PCSO blotter update, deputies found the deceased male in possession of a firearm, live ammunition, and surrounded by multiple shell casings. The narrative took an unexpected turn as a relative of the victim, in a state of heightened distress, assaulted a deputy trying to prevent his entry into the crime scene; the deputy was later sent to the hospital with minor injuries, and the family member was arrested and charged with third-degree assault.
The PCSO has not yet taken any suspects into custody, and the investigation is in progress, with detectives and forensic teams working through the night. As the search for the perpetrator continues, the roadway remains closed.
The Sheriff's Department is urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. Concerned citizens can contact the Sheriff’s Department directly or offer anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers, available on the Sheriff’s App.
