Residents of Blue Earth County who are still grappling with the aftermath of the severe storms, and flooding from June to July this year are now receiving a helping hand. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) alongside Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HSEM) has set up a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Blue Earth County Justice Center. This facility, located at 401 Carver Road, Mankato, opened its doors on August 14th, ready to assist affected individuals in starting the road to recovery, according to the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office.
The DRC is staffed by specialists from FEMA, the state of Minnesota, and the U.S. Small Business Administration who are ready to support survivors with federal disaster assistance, document uploads, and provide disaster resistance education. The center operates from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM daily. Residents from any of the 19 Minnesota counties included in the Presidential Declaration of Emergency are encouraged to visit. Nevertheless, FEMA offers alternative means for those unable to make an in-person visit to apply for assistance, such as through their website disasterassistance.gov, the FEMA mobile app, or the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362, the Sheriff's Office further noted.
Moreover, the FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) team is active in Minnesota, focusing on the needs of impacted communities and individuals. The team's efforts include gathering information for operational decisions, providing case-specific information and referrals, collaborating with community partners, and ensuring that public information is inclusive for those with disabilities. This approach underscores FEMA's commitment to a comprehensive and considerate disaster response.
For residents who had previously reported property damage via the Blue Earth County website, it is important to complete the FEMA application process as well. Although individual assistance from FEMA does not cover all disaster-related losses and is not an insurance replacement, it can provide a substantial boost in meeting essential needs and facilitate overall recovery efforts. Any additional questions or more information can be directed to FEMA's Helpline, at 800-621-3362.
