Following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Beryl, FEMA has set up two Disaster Recovery Centers (DRC) in Harris County to assist impacted residents with relief efforts. The centers, located at George H.W. Bush Community Center in Spring and Milton Lusk Activity Center in Houston, opened their doors to the public today to serve as hubs for recovery services. The Houston Chronicle reports that the centers will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
These centers are not only aiding those affected by Hurricane Beryl but are also offering help to residents dealing with the aftermath of the storms and flooding that occurred between April 26 and June 5. In a statement obtained by FEMA, officials highlighted that no appointments are necessary, encouraging survivors from a wide area encompassing Austin, Bowie, Brazoria, Chambers, and various other counties to seek the necessary assistance.
Understanding the value of time and efficiency in these circumstances, residents are urged to register with FEMA before visiting the recovery centers. They may apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, via the FEMA mobile app, or through the helpline at 800-621-3362, which operates between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. According to The Houston Chronicle, these steps are recommended to expedite the in-person process.
The DRCs are committed to accessibility for all individuals, featuring assistive technology for people with disabilities or access and functional needs. Resources and help are available in most languages, with FEMA providing a helpline and other relay services to accommodate various communication needs.
