Mark your calendars and plan your routes, folks—the Waterfront Festival is docking at Plymouth this weekend. According to a recent advisory by the Plymouth Police Department, Water Street will be brimming with festivities from Union Street to Brewster Street, including a sleek car show, from 10 AM to 6 PM on Saturday, August 24.
Getting swept up in the festival flow will mean road closures and parking restrictions, as the department detailed, with "No Overnight Parking" on Water Street from midnight, and similar bans on North Street and in both turn-a-rounds at Pilgrim Memorial Park. Rolling in too late could get you towed, with enforcement beginning sharply at 5 AM.
Enclosed by closures, Water Street's stretch from Union to Brewster will become pedestrian territory from early dawn till 10 PM. Adjacent thoroughfares, including Brewster, Howland, and Chilton, will shutter to through traffic for most of the day. For savory seafood bites or a quick art gallery jaunt, note that access to Water Street's local businesses will tighten; patrons and employees should nibble on this information and plan to avoid a last-minute scramble.
Despite the restrictions, parking relief comes in the form of the public lot behind Memorial Hall, remaining open from the Rotary with traffic being directed to Court Street for exits. One might think with these adjustments, like a gull to the sea, seamless navigation through Plymouth's charm will be attainable for locals and visitors alike.
