Early Wednesday morning, a devastating two-vehicle collision on Highway 281, just north of Lampasas, claimed the lives of five individuals. As reported by CBS Austin, the incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. and was initially attributed to a tire blowout on a 2004 Cadillac CTS. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that the vehicle, after losing control, was careened into the opposite lane and collided with a 2024 Kia Telluride.
The crash tragically snuffed out the lives of all involved, including 31-year-old Cadillac driver Jacinto Gudino Duran and his 23-year-old female passenger, both residents of Copperas Cove. The occupants of the Kia, identified as Arvind Mani, 45, Pradeepa Arvind, 40, and Andril Arvind, 17, were also pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses have claimed to have seen the Cadillac hurtling at a high rate of speed before it lost control, as per officials' notes on the extensive vehicular damage.
According to FOX 44 News, the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office reported that the highway was blocked following the accident, which took place 6 miles north of Lampasas near Lampasas County Road 2227. The road closure ensued as emergency services and multiple agencies quickly responded to the scene after the first distress call at approximately 5:50 a.m.
The investigation is to still uncover the determinants that led to the accident. As families grapple with the enormity of their loss, officials corroborated that next of kin have been notified. This collision stands as a grim reminder of the unpredictability of life and the ever-present dangers that loom on our roads. Both reports confirm that the investigation continues, and the community awaits answers on what led to such a catastrophic event.
