
Former NASCAR champion Kurt Busch found himself on the wrong side of the law Tuesday night, when the North Carolina State Highway Patrol arrested him for driving while impaired in Iredell County. As reported by WLBT, the 46-year-old was pulled over after clocking 63 mph in a 45 mph zone and displayed reckless driving behavior, prompting suspicions of intoxication.
Busch, who gained fame as the 2004 NASCAR Cup Series champion, subjected to a roadside field sobriety test by a trooper determined to be impaired by alcohol. With a breath test at the Iredell County Jail revealing a .17 breath alcohol concentration, which was more than twice the legal limit. According to WBTV, he was subsequently charged with driving while impaired and given a written promise to appear in court.
The additional charges of speeding and reckless driving were handled by the Iredell County Sheriff's Office. Despite these incidents casting a shadow on his illustrious career, Busch has agreed to face the consequences of his actions and provided assurances that he will show up for his initial court date on September 19, 2024, in Mooresville, as posted on QC News.
Busch's career on the track, ending with his retirement in 2023 due to the lingering effects of a concussion, included significant victories such as the 2017 Daytona 500. He announced his retirement after an illustrious tenure in the sport, including his younger brother, Kyle Busch, continues to compete professionally.
