Former San Mateo County mushroom farm manager Martin Medina, 51, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison after a jury convicted him of attempted murder with a firearm and premeditation in July. The sentencing follows an incident in 2022 when Medina tried to shoot a couple at a farm in Half Moon Bay, firing through their door. The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, as stated in a post, had originally sought a longer sentence of 29 years.

The attempted murder took place on July 1, 2022, when Medina, in a conflict with another manager at the California Terra Garden farm, threatened to kill the 34-year-old victim and his family. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Medina fired a handgun through the glass door of the trailer where the victim was residing, the bullet passing dangerously close to the adjacent dwelling. No one was injured in this ordeal. Attempts to reach California Terra Garden CEO Xianmin Guan were unsuccessful, and Medina's attorney, Jai Gohel, declined to comment.

Before his sentencing, Medina was held on a $5 million bail at the Maple Street Correctional Center in Redwood City, with a trial date set for August.
