A candlelight vigil will take place this evening to honor the life and service of Sgt. Billy Randolph. Members of the Fort Worth community will gather at 7:30 p.m. at the South Patrol Division, situated at 3501 W. Risinger Road, where a temporary memorial has been erected in his memory. Sgt. Randolph, a decorated veteran of nearly three decades with the Fort Worth Police Department, tragically lost his life last week while attending a crash scene on I-35W southbound near Sycamore School Road.

According to the City of Fort Worth, the incident occurred after I-35 had already been closed for multiple hours following an 18-wheeler crash that resulted in a spill. While working the scene, Sgt. Randolph was struck by a vehicle driven by De Aujalae Evans, 25, from Fort Worth. Evans who, for reasons not yet disclosed by officials, navigated her red 2020 Nissan Versa up the exit ramp incorrectly, colliding with Randolph.

Fellow officers quickly transported Randolph to JPS Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. In a poignant display of respect, a video capturing the procession from JPS Hospital was shared, allowing those unable to attend to pay tribute to Randolph's service and sacrifice. Friends, family, and colleagues of Sgt. Randolph is expected to speak during tonight's vigil, reflecting on his enduring impact on the community and the loss felt by many.
