A substantial fire erupted last Friday afternoon at the Texas Industrial Scrap Metal yard located in the 3800 block of North Commerce Street, demanding a robust response from the Fort Worth Fire Department. Crews that had earlier tackled a blaze at a commercial structure with River Oaks were rerouted to contend with the new emergency, encountering heavy smoke and flames upon arrival.
As per the Fort Worth Fire Department, with the mercury hovering around an oppressive 106 degrees and an excessive heat warning previously issued, the firefighters, over 175 personnel leveraging 41 apparatuses, battled the conflagration into the early hours of Saturday, concluding their efforts at 4:17 a.m.
The intensity of the blaze was matched by the resilience of responding units, where two firefighters sustained injuries amidst their duties. However, the department anticipates their full recovery. As of now, the origin of the fire is yet to be determined, with investigations ongoing to ascertain how the flames began.
