The digital landscape in Fort Worth is getting a much-needed boost, as the city endeavors to provide underserved neighborhoods with more robust internet access. A partnership between the local government and Sprocket Networks aims to equip residents in five neighborhoods with wireless internet service, ensuring that a lack of connectivity will no longer hinder their access to online education, job searches, and telemedicine services.

In an initiative reported to bridge the digital divide, the cities have already rolled out wireless internet to neighborhoods including Stop Six, Ash Crescent, Northside, Rosemont, and Como. According to the City of Fort Worth, planning alongside Sprocket Networks, is underway to deploy a high-speed fiber network within the next three years. Through this fiber network, the city locations and neighborhoods previously lacking internet will be connected. At the recent TX BDO Industry Roundtable held on July 30, public feedback was enthusiastically collected about the project.

While the city presses forward, staff are currently working on a Digital Navigator’s Program. This initiative, they are developing, will assist residents in accessing devices, affordable internet, and acquiring digital literacy skills. As detailed by Fort Worth's recent updates, the rollout in the five neighborhoods marks only a beginning. With a timeline set at three years to complete the high-speed fiber network, Fort Worth ascertains its commitment to technological inclusivity.
