A Friendswood man has recently been taken into custody on allegations of possessing child sexual abuse material. As per the information from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, yesterday, law enforcement executed a search warrant at an address on the 800 block of Falling Leaf Drive. The officers' investigation led to the detainment of six individuals, including 30-year-old Akshay Kumar. Examination of his digital devices unveiled child sexual abuse material, resulting in Kumar's arrest and the pressing of three counts of possession of child pornography against him. He was subsequently booked into Galveston County Jail with a bond set to the sum of $180,000, as reported by Click2Houston.

In a separate but equally disturbing investigation, emerged the arrest of another Houston area man implicated in the creation of child pornography using artificial intelligence, detailed in a report by Houston Public Media. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Roman Shoffner, supposedly utilized an AI program to digitally strip a 17-year-old girl in an image. Seized in May, Shoffner's cellphone provided enough evidence to charge him with the creation of an image with intentions of possessing child pornography, as the precinct's Human Trafficking Unit articulated. His charge is a third degree felony, indicating the seriousness of the crime.

Notable in Shoffner's case is the purported use of artificial intelligence to perpetrate his offense. Local authorities believe his arrest might be among the first of its kind in the Houston area. This emerging trend of high-tech-enabled child pornography underscores a bigger issue – the evolving landscape of technology and its misuse, adapting to which legislatively, proved imperative with the recent amendment to House Bill 2700 targeting the creation of computer-generated sexually explicit images.
