Fulton County Animal Services is grappling with an unprecedented surge in their intake numbers, reaching a new high since the start of July. According to an announcement on its website, the shelter has experienced a substantial influx of dogs in need of care. "The first week of July we took in 211 dogs and we had 149 leave," Shelter Director, Fulton County Animal Services, Audrey Shoemaker told Fulton County news. This significant disparity indicates that the shelter is facing ongoing challenges as "we ended up having 62 dogs that didn't have outcomes," Shoemaker added, pointing to an increasingly stressed system.
The Fulton County Animal Services team is urging the community to consider adopting or fostering to help alleviate the strain on the shelter, highlighting the need for supportive measures from pet lovers and potential animal guardians. Efforts also extend to community outreach and education, aimed at reducing the number of animals entering the shelter in the first place.
