The City of Garland has once again become the backdrop for a crime that seems to come straight out of a Hollywood action flick, though with far less glamor and much more real-world consequences. In the early hours of July 19, a group of thieves used a silver Kia as a battering ram to break into Lateral Limits, a gun store located on Broadway Boulevard. According to WFAA, surveillance footage captured a man scouting the storefront before he and the others launched their vehicle into the building.
Despite the brazen nature of the break-in, the thieves left empty-handed in terms of firearms, finding none on display. However, they managed to snatch two knives and a flashlight before fleeing the scene. Keenan Allemond, the shop's owner, said, as per FOX4 News, "He had to back the car out to basically rip the gate down. When he did, it took the gate, the storefront, everything with it". Allemond has since been sleeping in his store for the past month, not willing to leave his life's savings behind a mere plywood barrier.
In a further blow to the community's sense of safety, this incident marks the third time that Lateral Limits has been targeted by thieves, with previous break-ins in 2021 and 2023, as reported by FOX4 News. The recurrent break-ins have taken a financial toll on the owner, with repair costs now totaling nearly $20,000. He has upgraded the shop's defenses this week, installing concrete barricades and an internal locked gate to safeguard against future attempts.
