The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently probing into a fatal shooting involving law enforcement officers in Flemington, Georgia. Andre Deon Haggray, 30, was killed during the incident after deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance. The GBI's inquiry into the shooting began upon the request of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, as per a press release published yesterday.
According to preliminary details released by the GBI, deputies were dispatched around 9:30 a.m. to a residence off Old Hines Road following a 911 call. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Haggray in the home’s backyard. In an event that quickly escalated, Haggray drew a handgun, prompting one of the deputies to fire at him. Haggray then fled into the woods located behind the property, where he was later found by the deputies.
The confrontation continued in the woodland area where Haggray and the deputies engaged in a further exchange of gunfire. The incident came to an end on a nearby dirt road where, after encountering additional deputies, Haggray reportedly raised his hand with the gun. According to the GBI's statement, this action led the deputies to fire at Haggray, striking him. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Haggray will be taken to the GBI Medical Examiners Office in Pooler, Georgia, where an autopsy will be performed to thoroughly examine the cause of death. The GBI’s independent investigation is set to continue, with the commitment to provide a completed case file to the Atlantic District Attorney’s Office, so they can effectively review the circumstances surrounding the deputy-involved shooting in Liberty County.
