The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of 44-year-old Wayne Fuller of Macon, GA. His untimely demise came following a police chase that ended in Henry County, a chain of events sparked by Fuller's connection to a homicide that had occurred in Bibb County.
It all began on a typical Friday afternoon on August 16, 2024, when a Spalding County Sheriff’s Office deputy was alerted to be on the lookout for a vehicle linked to the aforementioned homicide. As fate would have it, the car passed by the deputy just as he was receiving the information. With no time to waste, the deputy endeavored to quickly initiate a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle, however, had other plans, choosing instead to quickly flee from the law enforcement official. This action subsequently led to a pursuit that spilled over into Henry County, where other agencies joined in to assist.
During the pursuit, officers employed a PIT maneuver — a technique designed to safely end car chases. As law enforcement approached the vehicle, they noticed blood inside the car which raised alarm that the driver could either be severely injured or deceased. Upon closer inspection, they discovered it was indeed Fuller, and that he appeared to suffer from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Although deputies and officers attempted to administer medical aid, Fuller was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the GBI's press release.
There were no injuries reported among the deputies or officers during the incident. Fuller’s body is set to be transported to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy to confirm the cause and manner of death. The GBI has assured that a thorough and independent investigation will be conducted into the full scope of the incident. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will then be presented to the Henry County District Attorney’s Office for further review to surely assess the sequence of events that led to this tragic end.
