An attempted robbery in Glen Burnie ended without harm, but it's a stark reminder of the risks inherent in online marketplaces. Anne Arundel County Police reported that on August 26, around 3:30 in the afternoon, a man expecting a routine purchase was instead faced with the barrel of a gun. The incident occurred in the 7800 block of Park West Drive when the victim arrived to complete a transaction organized through an e-commerce app. According to the police post, two men approached his vehicle—one entering on the passenger side and brandishing a handgun in an attempt to rob him. The victim managed to escape by fleeing his vehicle, prompting the suspects to make their own getaway in a blue sedan with tinted windows.

Police are seeking two individuals linked to the attempted robbery: a 5’9” tall black male in his 20s with a slim build, dressed in all black, and a 5’6” tall black male in his late teens, wearing a blue shirt and black pants. In light of this event, authorities emphasize the importance of safety during in-person transactions of online purchases. They suggest the use of Safe Transaction Zones offered at district police stations and offer several guidelines to reduce risk, including choosing public meeting places, conducting business during daylight, and never going alone to transactions.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department urges everyone to consider these monitored areas as a way to safeguard both parties in a sale. They also remind sellers and buyers to remain vigilant and trust their instincts when dealing with strangers. The Department is asking anyone with information about the attempted robbery to call 410-222-6155 or to contact their Tip Line anonymously at 410-222-4700.
