Arizona has a new name to count on in its pursuit of higher education excellence. Governor Katie Hobbs has tapped Lee Stein, a legal authority with a 25-plus year tenure that spans from Assistant U.S. Attorney to Special Assistant Attorney General, to join the Arizona Board of Regents. This move, announced yesterday, adds seasoned legal wisdom to the governance of Arizona's public universities.
"Lee Stein has a track record of fighting for accountability and transparency, experience that will make him well equipped to serve on the Arizona Board of Regents," Governor Katie Hobbs said to azgovernor.gov. She seems to be making good on her commitment to fully ensure education remains within the grasp of all Arizonans. Stein, who has roots in both Arizona State University and the University of Arizona, brings a particular affinity for the state's educational landscape.
The new appointee also carries with him a wealth of practical experience. He's not only worked closely with former Senator John McCain but also lectured at the same universities he is now set to help oversee. His background in legal education at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona marks a direct link between his profession and the academic institutions he'll govern.
Embracing the confidence placed in him by the governor, Stein responded, "I am humbled by Governor Hobbs’ confidence in me," noting his anticipation "to doing my part to ensure that the universities continue to provide an accessible and high quality education to Arizona students," as per the official statement on azgovernor.gov. With his focus firmly set on advancing the state's education, Stein is in position to potentially shape the future of Arizona's university system.
