The Trinity Blacklands Urban Forestry Council is joining forces with Keep Grand Prairie Beautiful to offer a two-part class dedicated to arboriculture and urban forestry. Dubbed "ShadeMakers", this free educational opportunity aims at empowering residents with the knowledge to maintain and care for the city's green canopy, according to the City of Grand Prairie, Texas.
Slated for November 16, the first day of the program will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. indoors at the Main Library, laying the groundwork for practical, outdoor instruction to follow. Participants can then roll up their sleeves on December 7 for a hands-on experience in tree pruning, though the location for this day remains, as of now undisclosed.
With urban forests playing a critical role in improving air quality, reducing the urban heat island effect, and providing necessary habitats for wildlife, the ShadeMakers course has the potential to equip its graduates with essential skills for fostering a healthier, more resilient urban environment.
