The shovel has hit the dirt in Williamson County as the Ronald Reagan Blvd. The Widening Project officially commenced with a groundbreaking ceremony. To alleviate congestion and improve safety, the project will expand the stretch of Ronald Reagan Boulevard from FM 3405 to SH 29, adding turn lanes, and separating the northbound and southbound traffic with a median.

Local officials are touting the benefits for area residents and daily commuters. "We are excited to break ground on the expansion of and safety improvements on this section of Ronald Reagan.  It will provide welcome relief to the residents in the area and the commuters who use this road daily," Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long stated. Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey also expressed gratitude toward Williamson County voters for their support in improving the county's roadways.

The project has a budget of roughly $52.1 million, a sum sourced from the 2019 voter-approved Williamson County Road Bond. It also sports a roster of collaborators contributing in various forms; Ed Horne, the developer of Santa Rita Ranch, donated right-of-way, the Texas Department of Transportation granted construction permissions within their right-of-way, and the City of Georgetown has footed 40% of the design and construction costs related to their waterline relocation.

STV has been enlisted as the design engineer for the project, with Chasco Constructors handling the construction operations. Those looking for updates on the project's progress can keep up-to-date by visiting the Ronald Reagan Widening project page. The project is expected to reach completion by the summer of 2027, shifting today's vision into tomorrow's roadway reality.
