The future of Gwinnett County's Park Place community is set to unfold, as the Board of Commissioners approved a $217,000 contract with Sizemore Group, LLC to draft a master plan that aims to revitalize the area, targeting several development opportunities. The plan will draw upon funds from the recent sale of the Stone Mountain Tennis Center site, according to Gwinnett County's recent announcement.
Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson emphasized the commitment to “promoting sustainable and inclusive growth, and the Park Place community is a critical part of that vision." She added, “By creating a master plan that emphasizes transit-oriented development and housing diversity, we are laying the groundwork for a vibrant future for this portion of our county.”
Apart from focusing on physical developments, the master plan will also be shaped by inputs from residents ensuring that the final blueprint is in sync with local needs and expectations, for the master plan aligns with the community’s vision and priorities according to the process that will involve feedback from stakeholders and residents the County communications indicated.
Local leadership has shown a strong interest in steering the Park Place community towards a brighter future District 2 Commissioner Ben Ku in a nod to earlier progress shared that "The sale of the Stone Mountain Tennis Center site earlier this year marked an important step forward in redeveloping this area," while looking forward with optimism, Ku said "Our goal is to continue this work by developing a path forward that thoughtfully considers the community’s needs and opens up new opportunities for the future of Park Place," as reported by Gwinnett County's recent announcement.
The purchase of eight additional acres near Stone Mountain, previously owned by Jubilee Christian Church International, Inc., is a key part of the development plan. Located in the Park Place Tax Allocation District and the Evermore Community Improvement District, this land is crucial for the county’s strategic redevelopment efforts.
