HCDS Opens Waitlists for Affordable Housing in Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido, Applications Start August 29Source: County of San Diego

To address the pressing demand for affordable housing in the county, the Housing and Community Development Services (HCDS) has announced opening a waitlist for rental assistance units across three new housing developments. These developments will cater to seniors, low-income families, and disabled adults experiencing homelessness.

Beginning August 29 at 7:30 a.m., interested renters can submit their applications to live in one of these buildings. According to the County of San Diego, successful applicants will be required to pay rent, approximately 30% of their income. Applications can be processed online at the HCDS website, in person, or via telephone at 858-694-4801.

David Estrella, director of HCDS, emphasized the role of County Project-Based Vouchers, stating, "County Project Based Vouchers spur the development of much needed affordable housing in the region and are an important way the County supports the housing needs of vulnerable groups like the elderly and disabled," as per the County of San Diego.

The developments opening their waitlists include Santa Fe Senior Village, featuring 53 new units for seniors aged 62 and older; Estrella, with 96 units targeting low-income families; and Breezewood, which has 23 project-based voucher units primarily for disabled adults experiencing homelessness and low-income families. These developments are located in Vista, San Marcos, and Escondido. While demand for such housing options remains high, the county’s efforts aim to alleviate some of the strain on the community.
