Los Angeles is currently grappling with a heatwave that has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a regional heat advisory. According to NWS Heat Advisory, high temperatures are expected to range from 94 to 98 degrees in some parts of the area, posing an increased risk for heat-related illnesses amongst vulnerable populations.
Areas particularly affected by the sweltering heat include Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles, and extending southeastward through Downey, Norwalk, Lakewood, and surrounding communities. As per the NWS Heat Advisory, the advisory will remain in effect until 8 PM PDT this evening and also includes warnings of overnight lows in the lower 70s around the foothills.
The heat advisory urges residents to drink plenty of fluids, remain in air-conditioned spaces, and minimize time spent in direct sunlight. In addition, the advisory recommends checking on relatives and neighbors, particularly those who are very young, old, or without air conditioning, and those engaging in outdoor activities.
The advisory also suggests precautions for outdoor workers, with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration advising frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments, those experiencing heat-related symptoms should move to a cooler place and heat stroke should be treated as an emergency by calling 9 1 1.
The forecast for the coming days from the National Weather Service indicates a continuation of sunny conditions, with temperatures fluctuating slightly but remaining high, emphasizing the need for prolonged awareness and preventive measures throughout the week.
