The Hernando County Sheriff's Office has issued a public appeal for assistance in locating Stephen Edward Wynn, a registered sex offender who is now on the run after violating his reporting requirements and removing his ankle monitor.
Wynn, described as a white male, 5’8” in height, and weighing 210 pounds with grey hair and blue eyes, was arrested on August 8, for a failure to comply with his sex offender reporting duties. Information released by the Hernando County Sheriff's Office indicates he was released two days later, on August 10. However, authorities were alerted the following day that Wynn had removed his tracking device.
Details concerning the incident suggest that before disappearing, Wynn withdrew a substantial amount of cash from a bank and is believed to be fleeing in a 2014 gray Jeep Patriot, with the Florida license plate IZ93ES. The SUV is registered to a family member of Wynn. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office was notified of Wynn's escape on August 11, around 4 p.m., after he was seen leaving his residence in Brooksville.
Back in 2019, Wynn faced adjudication in Stark County, N.D., where he was found guilty of Gross Sexual Imposition and Sexual Battery on Adult Victim with Aggravating Circumstances. His conviction has landed him the status of a Sexual Offender in Florida, thereby binding him to certain registration requirements. Upon breaching these stipulations, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office has now turned to the community for help in locating him.
The Sheriff's Office is urging anyone with information regarding Stephen Edward Wynn's whereabouts to contact them at 352-754-6830, or to call 9-1-1 for immediate assistance.
