The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of Deputy Timothy White, 45, who tragically ended his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday evening at 5:28 p.m. The official announcement stated White was found by a family member in a vehicle parked at the Tampa Fire Rescue Headquarters. Deputy White was a 15-year veteran at the Sheriff's Office, his recent assignment being at the Hillsborough County Courthouse.
In an immediate response to this tragedy, Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed his deep sorrow, stating, "I am devastated to learn that one of our own was suffering in silence," highlighting the often-unseen struggles of law enforcement officers and the imperative of mental health support within the force, the same statement emphasized that the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office stands together in this period of grievance along with Deputy White's family and friends. For individuals facing crisis, Sheriff Chronister reminded the community that support is readily available, urging them to reach out and contact the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay by dialing 211.
Acknowledging the gravity of mental health issues, especially among those working in the stressful field of law enforcement, the Sheriff's Office also expressed gratitude towards the Tampa Police Department for their support during this challenging time.
