In a turn of events that quickly morphed from a community effort into a pressing criminal investigation, the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the body found in Idaho Springs is that of the missing man, Paul Peavey, who was reported missing just days earlier, the case has now been classified as a homicide, as reported by Denver7.
The unsettling discovery came about through the determined efforts of Peavey’s close friend, Bruce Boynton, owner of Pickaxe Pizza, who organized the local search party that located Peavey's body in the 1000 block of Two Brothers Road near Idaho Springs, Boynton was spurred into action unable to reach his friend on Wednesday when his attempts to contact Peavey were met with silence, according to Denver7.
Despite the sheriff’s office taking early reports of a missing person tied to the property where Peavey was eventually found, they have only broadly described his death as suspicious with no immediate further details available, as noted by KDVR, and have yet to publicly confirm the deceased as the reported missing person until the recent update.
The Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office communicated a reassurance to the public, stating, "His death is considered a homicide, however, we do not believe the public is in imminent danger," a sentiment reflected late Saturday night, following the grim find, a status that has left the tight-knit Idaho Springs community grappling with the loss of Peavey under such tragic circumstances, and the details of the investigation are to be closely monitored as officials proceed, the comfort offered amidst the ongoing investigation according to a post by the sheriff's office, as per Denver7.
