Houston residents should be prepared for another sweltering day with a side of thunderstorms, as the forecast calls for unsettled weather. According to a National Weather Service report, showers and thunderstorms are likely, particularly between 1 pm and 2 pm. Today's high is pegged near 91 degrees but feels more intense with heat index values climbing as high as 102. The chances of rain are sitting at a steady 60%, with potential new rainfall amounting to less than a tenth of an inch, soaring higher amidst thunderstorms.
The city will see only slightly less activity tonight, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 am, as per the same NWS report. As for the rest of the week, Houston is slated to undergo a series of thunderstorms and showers with nearly identical patterns arriving each day, where mornings start calm before storms intensify in the afternoon - all courtesy of the scorching heat and saturated air. High temperatures are forecasted to hover in the 88 to 91-degree range, continuously creating a risk of pushing beyond comfortable heat index values of 102.
Meanwhile, on a wider scale, the NOAA Storm Prediction Center outlines a slight risk of severe thunderstorms encompassing regions from the Ohio Valley all the way to the Middle Atlantic, and a separate system posing threats over the Dakotas. Their report indicates a dynamic scenario involving an upper ridge yielding to a progressive short-wave trough, which is setting the stage for some potentially intense weather activity in these regions. Upper ridge is gradually breaking down over the Ohio Valley, as heights are suppressed along the southern fringe of stronger flow, stated the SPC Forecast Discussion.
The NWS Houston, on a social media update, warned locals to expect scattered showers and storms to initiate along the coast in the morning, amp up inland through the afternoon, and finally dissipate as the evening approaches.
Another day, another chance for scattered showers and storms. Activity will start along the coast during the morning, then increase in coverage inland through the afternoon before dissipating late this evening. Afternoon high temperatures will be in the low 90s.#HOUwx #TXwx pic.twitter.com/IxOHNBm7qU
