In a harrowing turn of events that has rocked Houston's Little Saigon, Bich Xuan Dang, a 51-year-old man, has been sentenced to a 45-year prison term following his guilty plea for a double murder at Tai Loi, a Vietnamese restaurant. As Fox26 Houston reports, the murders took place in October 2022, when Dang and two accomplices entered the establishment on Bellaire Boulevard and fatally shot Hanh Nguyen, 63, and Long Nguyen, 51.

Prior to the shooting, Dang was involved in an attempted extortion for $1,000 from Café Window, a nearby business, a confrontation that escalated and resulted to be quickly diffused by an armed security guard. According to a CW39 report, after being forced to leave, Dang along with the other suspects, drove directly to the restaurant with the intent to open fire indiscriminately inside Tai Loi.

The confession by Dang has provided a grim sense of closure to the victims' families and community. "The evidence was overwhelming, with clear video footage and eyewitnesses prepared to testify," Assistant District Attorneys Chris Condon and George Lindsey conveyed in a statement reported by Fox26 Houston. Dang's guilty plea, by admitting his role in the senseless violence, means he relinquishes the option to appeal his case. He will face the possibility of parole only after having served at least half of his sentence.

One of Dang's accomplices is currently awaiting trial, while efforts to apprehend the third man involved in the crime continue. The Harris County District Attorney's office expressed the community's sentiments: "This was a brutal shooting at a place that should be safe for families and for all Houstonians. It’s important to the community, as well as the victims’ families, that everyone involved be held accountable." Houston Police are urging anyone with information on the third suspect to contact Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477), as per the statement in the CW39 report.
