Houston's business landscape appears to be setting a standard for gender equity and workplace inclusivity, as indicated by the latest report from Forbes. Special recognition is given to the Houston Methodist and MD Anderson Cancer Center, both of which have secured illustrious spots on Forbes' list of best employers for women. This accolade is notably based on responses from a large global survey, which comprised input from over 150,000 women, including a minimum of 1,000 from within the United States. The survey covered aspects such as pay equity, parental leave, and the management of misconduct and discrimination incidents.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Houston Methodist, with its seven hospitals across Texas, has been keen to support gender diversity, inclusivity, and equal opportunities. The presence of Women at Houston Methodist is strong, with workforce data indicating women constitute 76% of the organization’s staff. In a bid to sustain and advance such progress, the hospital has actively pushed for Employee Resource Groups catering to diverse demographics and backgrounds. Roberta Schwartz, executive vice president and chief innovation officer, offered insights into the efforts, saying, "We think about diversity in both leadership roles and every area of our organization to make sure that we have systems and benefits set up that would enable our women to be successful in the roles that they want to take."
MD Anderson Cancer Center is another Houston-based institution that has not failed to impress, scaling up to number 10 among the best large employers nationwide, as reported by a separate Forbes ranking. With a focus on cutting-edge cancer research and treatment, the facility prioritizes creating a conducive working environment for all. Being a Texas Mother-Friendly Worksite signifies their commitment to support breastfeeding staff members, amongst other employee-friendly policies.
