The Houston Police Department is currently investigating a fatal shooting that took place on the East Freeway last Thursday around 10:45 p.m. According to a release, a 21-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead after being transported in critical condition by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center.
On a routine patrol, HPD officers were witnesses to what appeared to be a road rage incident as they traveled eastbound on the freeway. Making a U-turn after exiting the freeway, officers found the unresponsive victim. The name of the deceased is yet to be verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Detectives M. Barrow and J. Caten from the HPD Homicide Division are leading the investigation into the shooting. Both the victim and the shooter evidently exchanged gunfire during the incident, which resulted in the victim's injuries. The families of both parties remained at the scene and have provided their statements to investigators, as indicated in the original report.
Currently, no charges have been filed, with the investigation remaining active. A solid piece of evidence from the scene has allowed preliminary conclusions on the exchange of gunfire, but the inquiry into the specifics of the altercation is ongoing. The authorities urge anyone with additional information to come forward and contact the HPD Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers to assist with the case.
