Howard County police are intensifying their efforts to locate 17-year-old William Marshall III, the suspect identified in the fatal shooting at The Mall in Columbia on July 27th. In a recent publication by the Howard County Police Department, authorities announced an increased reward of up to $10,000 for information directly leading to his arrest. Marshall, who is also known by the nickname "Junior," is facing charges of first-degree murder and related offenses in connection with the death of Angelo Little, also 17.
Investigators have reason to believe that Marshall specifically targeted Little, who was pronounced dead at the shooting scene. Surveillance footage from August 5 revealed Marshall's movements within the mall both before and after the incident occurred. As a student of Oakland Mills High School, Marshall's absence from school this year is complicating the search efforts, with detectives suspecting he may have fled the immediate area.
Under normal circumstances, Maryland law shields the identities of juvenile suspects, even those charged as adults. However, an exception to this rule comes into play "for the sole purposes of facilitating apprehension of a child and ensuring public safety," as stated by the Howard County Police. Marshall's identification has been released publicly because he is currently on the lam and is considered a potential threat due to the alleged violent crime.
Howard County police are actively seeking the community's assistance and urge anyone with knowledge about Marshall's whereabouts to come forward.
