In the early hours this morning, Los Angeles firefighters confronted a greater alarm structure fire at 1310 W 6th St, the site of the celebrated but now-shuttered Pacific Dining Car restaurant. After an intense battle against the blaze, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) announced that the fire was fully extinguished within approximately 59 minutes. The outside fire, which had spread into the historic structure, required 75 firefighters to undertake largely defensive operations to quell the flames that took hold of the century-old building.
According to LAFD spokesperson Brian Humphrey, "No injuries" were reported in the fire that necessitated a considerable response including task forces, rescue ambulances, battalion chiefs, and specialized units. As the incident transpired in the dead of night, crews faced the added challenge of darkness as they worked diligently to contain and ultimately extinguish the fire that consumed the vacant landmark, once a vibrant piece of Los Angeles' urban tapestry.
The cause of the fire is now under active investigation by authorities tasked with unraveling such mysteries.
