
Early Monday morning in Irvine's family-centric Woodbridge neighborhood, a series of events that started with a vehicle crashing into a home led to a police-involved shooting of a suspect. The Irvine Police Department responded to the crash around 2:15 A.M. near Whistling Swan and Westone where they found a dead man inside the residence; this incident prompted an ongoing homicide investigation, according to KTLA.
The subsequent events unfolded an hour later when a man, believed to be connected with the crash, was encountered by police on foot near West Yale Loop and Stone Creek South, and the encounter ended with an officer-involved shooting with a knife recovered from the scene, as KTLA reported. Kyle Oldoerp, a spokesperson for the police department, noted the rarity of such incidents in the Woodbridge area and assured that the department was dedicating all available resources to the investigation, however, It's undetermined if there are other suspects involved at this point.
Details on the connection between the suspect and the victim, as well as the sequence of events that led to the suspect's shooting, remain unclear and ABC7 further stated that the suspect was transported to the hospital in unknown condition after the shooting.
Meanwhile, the Irvine Police Department has not specified if the dead man inside the home died as a result of the incident involving the vehicle crashing into the house, nor have they commented on the cause of death, but around the same hour, authorities contacted and subsequently shot the suspected individual near Stone Creek South and West Yale Loop, a knife was recovered at the shooting site as confirmed by ABC7's report. No officers were injured during the incident.
