
A bank robbery in Kailua-Kona has led to the arrest of a local man, Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating the crime that occurred yesterday, August 29, when a suspect allegedly walked into a bank on the 75-5600 block of Palani Road and handed over a note demanding cash before making an escape with an undisclosed sum.
Responding to the scene at around 3:24 p.m., Kona patrol officers launched an immediate investigation into the incident which thankfully didn't result in physical harm to anyone inside the bank even as the suspect fled north on Kuakini Highway; police efforts led to the identification and arrest of 44-year-old Brandan Patrick Nicholson of Kailua-Kona, just over an hour after the heist at 4:37 p.m., the police set the wheels of justice grinding forward with Nicholson currently in custody.
According to a statement from the Area II Criminal Investigation Section on Nixle, Nicholson was located near the scene of the robbery, though as of the latest reports, charges are yet to be pressed against him while the investigation remains ongoing, further bolstered by witness interviews and video surveillance that played a pivotal role in Nicholson's apprehension.
