Fire crews in Kalamazoo were called into action early Wednesday morning, engaging with flames tearing through two separate vacant homes, reported only minutes apart. According to FOX 17, the first blaze on Humphry Street was reported at 1:36 a.m. and extinguished within 15 minutes. Not ten minutes later, a second fire was reported on Sherwood Avenue at 1:44 a.m.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety swiftly responded to both scenes, facing heavy smoke and flames. Crews were able to quickly bring under control the first incident, while the Sherwood Avenue fire required roughly 45 minutes, with the structure being destroyed, as WOODTV detailed. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported at either location.
Investigations are currently underway by the KDPS Fire Marshal to determine the causes of the fires and whether there is any linkage between the two incidents. The concurrent timing of the fires has raised questions, but officials have not confirmed any connection as of now. Members of the public with knowledge about either of the fires have been encouraged to reach out to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at (269) 488-8911. Alternatively, Silent Observer accepts tips, allowing individuals to offer information anonymously. The KDPS continues to thoroughly investigate, as WWMT reports.
