Hey, Kingsport kids — get ready to kick, push, and coast. The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is rolling out a series of Introduction to Skateboarding lessons for young novices eager to navigate the world of ollies and kickflips. Starting in September, the Scott Adams Memorial Skatepark will become the classroom for young skateboard enthusiasts looking to learn the essentials of the sport.

Mark your calendars for every Monday evening from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., as from September 9 through September 30, the parks department will host the fundamentals of skateboarding, participants will not only learn how to stand and move on their boards but also safety measures which are just as crucial if not more, than the tricks. A little bird told us that the inaugural class will take a different turn, being held at the V.O. Dobbins, Sr. Complex to ease kids into the world of skateboarding before they hit the ramps and rails at the skate park for subsequent lessons.

The aim is to provide a supportive and secure atmosphere where aspiring skaters can build confidence along with their skills. According to the City of Kingsport's announcement, parents are welcome to stick around while their kids shred and learn, bringing your own skateboard is recommended, and hydration is on the house with water provided.

If this sounds like a flipping good way to wrap up summer and glide into fall, registration is a breeze and won't break the bank — $30 for city residents and a not-so-much-heftier $35 for non-city residents; make sure to reserve a slot before they're all snapped up as the program is capped at ten participants and it's expected to be popular with the boys and girls ages 7 to 12.
