As pickleball continues to rapidly gain popularity across the nation, the Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is jumping on the bandwagon and doing their part to make sure local enthusiasts and novices alike can get a piece of the action. They are rolling out a beginner's course in the sport, hoping to quickly bring new players up to speed. This initiative comes as the sport experiences a significant uptick in interest, reflecting a broader trend of pickleball's growing status as a must-play.
The city department has decided to make it easier than ever to learn how to quickly pick up a paddle by hosting a series of instructional sessions at the Riverview Pickleball Courts. Starting from August 29, every Thursday evening—save for a brief pause on September 19—the courts are expected to buzz with the sounds of bouncing balls and new players mastering the serve. The classes, earmarked to run from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., are open to anyone 14 and up and are moderately priced at $30 for city dwellers and a slightly higher fee for those from further afield.
According to a description released by the City of Kingsport's official announcement, participants will be engaged in a comprehensive learning experience. They will be led by an instructor through the ins and outs of the game, getting down the nitty-gritty of rules, serving techniques, return serves, and "dinking" – a soft shot in pickleball aimed just over the net. Moreover, the ease of gearing up is taken care of—all necessary equipment will be provided to the players.
Potential pickleball prodigies who are looking to get involved should act quickly to secure their spots. Registration is open and can seamlessly be executed through a couple of digital clicks either by visiting the direct link or through the Connect Kingsport app. It is essential to remember that these slots tend to fill swiftly, so delay at your own risk. The city's proactive effort to embrace the pickleball craze offers residents a perfect opportunity to engage in some healthy competition while joining a community of the paddle-obsessed.
