A 34-year-old man was arrested in Kingston after he struck a 12-year-old boy with his car and fled the scene, Kingston Police reported. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, and the suspect, identified as Nicolas Debord, was later found and charged with multiple offenses. Debord now faces counts of reckless driving, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless endangerment. Meanwhile, the young victim sustained what is being described as minor injuries.

According to WVLT, the boy informed officers that he was struck from behind by a black sedan while on Woodlawn Drive. A neighbor's security footage provided police with a lead, showing a Chrysler speeding in the vicinity of the incident. The car in question, later located at 115 King Circle, exhibited damage consistent with the crash, pointing the investigation towards Debord, who was still behind the wheel. The Kingston Police Department noted that "Debord admitted to officers that he had struck the victim and left the scene due to his license being suspended."

At 115 King Circle, the damaged sedan was found and linked to the hit-and-run. As WBIR notes, the vehicle's alignment with the child's injuries and statements further implicated Debord. The ongoing investigation might yield additional charges, a reality that Debord is certainly aware of following his admission to the collision given the current charges he faces.

Highlighting the community's contribution to the rapid resolution of the case, Kingston Police, as echoed by WATE, extended their gratitude: "We would like to thank the officers and detectives for their hard work and quick response that resulted in the arrest of Nicolas Debord. We would also like to thank the citizens that helped in the investigation." Furthermore, the department seized this moment as an opportunity to remind motorists to slow down, drive safely, watch for pedestrians, and keep our roadways safe.
